Zalivanov won admission to the St. Petersburg N. Rimsky-Korsakov Music School in 2001; he was a student of B.L. Knipnis. Still a student, he participated in various ensembles and theater performances. He played the role of violinist in the performance “Devushkin and Varenka” after Dostoyevsky’s “Poor People” at the Experiment Theater directed by V. Kharitonov, and he also had created the musical accompaniment of the performance.

Since 2005, he studies at the St. Petersburg Conservatory at the class of Distinguished Artist of Russia Alexander Shustin, concertmaster of the Academy Orchestra of the Philharmonic Hall.

In 2006, Zalivanov was awarded with the First Prize at the “Petersburg Spring” International Competition in the nomination of classic performance. That same year, he participated in the master-class of the great jazz violinist Jean-Luke Ponte, and a year after that, he got the II place in the International Modern Art and Education Competition (Moscow) in the jazz nomination for playing his own compositions.

In 2006, he was invited to take part in the performance “Alexander Vertinsky. A Yellow Tango,” created in cooperation with the Moscow Golden Lion Union of Actors and Musicians.  This performance continues to be performed with great success on the stage of the Art-basement of the Stray Dog and various Moscow stages. Igor Zalivanov actively concertizes with various groups and takes part in many projects along with numerous solo performances. He pays a lot of attention to composition, works as a harmonist, and is actively involved with jazz music and violin improvisation.

In 2007, Zalivanov was admitted to the orchestra of the Alexandrinsky Theater. He is engaged in the following performances: "Living Corps" by L. Tolstoy (director Valery Fokin), "The Double" after Fedor Dostoyevsky (Director Valery Fokin), "The Ivans" after N. Gogol (director Andrey Moguchy), "A Fly" after K. Chekovsky and J. Brodsky (director Oleg Yeremin),  Hamlet by W. Shakespeare (director Valery Fokin, 2010).
