Balakshin graduated from B. Shchukin Theater Institute (affiliated with Vakhtangov Theater, Professor V. Ivanov's class) in 2008.  His diploma roles were: Macbeth ("Macbeth" by W. Shakespeare), Astley ("The Gambler" by Fedor Dostoyevsky), Father Iona ("Untilovsk" by L. Leonov), and Operator Grisha ("The White Acacia by I. Dunayevsky, V. Massa and Chervinsky).

He was admitted to the Alexandrinsky Theater in 2008 and presently is engaged in several performances: The Double after F. Dostoyevsky (the role of bureaucrat, Director Valery Fokin);  Oedipus Rex by Sophocles (Member of the Phoebe Choir, Director Theodoros Terzopoulos); The Living Corps by L. Tolstoy (the role of Young Officer, Director Valery Fokin); The Ivans after N. Gogol’s The Story about How Ivan Ivanovich Quarreled with Ivan Nikiforovich and other N. Gogol’s writings (Resident of Mirgorod, Director Andrey Moguchy); Vasily  (Ksenia. The History of Love by V. Levanov, Director Valery Fokin, 2009); Soldier (Man Equals Man by Berthold Brecht, Director Yu. Butusov); Little Charley (Flowers for Charley by D. Keyes, Director I. Sakayev); Boris Baokhin (Vampilov. Plays,  Director Oleg Yeremin, 2009). In W. Shakespeare's Hamlet (Director Valery Fokin, 2010) he plays the role of an Actor from the company of traveling actors performing the scene from The Moustrap.

 

The actor has also filmed in the cinema.  He played the major role in the film "A Kettle Man" (director A. Sukharev, 2003), Alexander Gorchakov (major role) in the film "18-14" (director Andres Puutsmaa, 2007) and Gott Paul ("Father's Daughters" series, director A. Zhigalkin, 2008).
