Actress
Yelena Gladkova graduated from the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music, and Cinematography named after N. Cherkasov (professor I. Gorbachev’s class) in 1983. After graduation she was admitted to the troupe of the Leningrad Academy Drama Theater named after A.Pushkin. Still a student, she played one of her first major roles – the part of Eva in L. Zhukhovitsky’s “A Trumpeter in the Square” (1982). If we try to define Yelena Gladkova’s type of an actress by the classic system, we can say that she is a brilliant ingenue. Her gracefulness, lightness and unique comedienne talent allowed the actress to play a great number of character roles. Among her first noticeable roles were the sisters Pezhenov – first, Anfisa (1985), and later on, Raisa (1990) – in A. Ostrovsky’s comedy “Balzaminov’s Marriage.” The actress found special vocal and plastic characteristics for each of the merchant’s daughters. The actress is capable to create the most unforgettable image of any, even a bit part role. She had played more than 60 roles in the years of her work at the Alexandrinsky Theater. These roles include Sonya (“Extreme Penalty,” V. Arro, 1983), Percy (“Airport,” A. Heily, 1984), Anna (“The First Ball of Cindrella” by Ye. Schwarts, director Nora Reichstein, 1989), Princess Aglaya and Princess Marya (“A Fairy Tale About Love” by G. Garbovitsky, 1991 and 1992), Liza (“Poverty Is No Vice” by A. Ostrovsky, director Yelena Chernaya, 1996), Dunyasha (“Marriage” by N. Gogol, director Alexander Galibin, 1998), Rozaly (“Lady Windermere's Fan” by Oscar Wild, director Alexander Belinsky, 1998), Tsarina (“The Fairy Tale about Tsar Saltan” by A. Pushkin, director Vladimir Golub, 1999), Ingenue (“A Pair of Chestnuts” by A. Belinsky, 2000), Matsapoor (“Inspector General” by N. Gogol, director Valery Fokin, 2002), Dunyasha (“The Living Corpse” by L. Tolstoy, director Valery Fokin, 2006), Woman Commoner (Ksenia. The History of Love by V. Levanov, Director Valery Fokin, 2009); etc. She is engaged in the group scenes of W.Shakespeare's Hamlet (Director Valery Fokin, 2010) and she is also playing the role of the Great-Great-Great Grandmother Rosa Frantsevna in the performance “The Fortune” by Andrey Moguchy and K. Filippov (Director Andrey Moguchy, 2011).
