Distinguished Artist of Ukraine, Laureate of the USSR State Award

Yevgeny Kapitonov graduated from the Simpheropol Musical College named after P.Tchaikovsky. In 1956, he was accepted to the troupe of the Crimean Academy Drama Theater named after M.Gorky, where he had played a series of diversified roles in the modern and classic repertoire. Among his characters were such personages as Meluzov (Talents and Admirers by A. Ostrovsky, 1965), Prokhor Gromov (The Ugryum River after Shishkov, 1969), Victor (The Warsaw Melody by L. Zorin, 1970), Steve Oblonsky (Anna Karenina by L. Tolstoy, 1978), Tzar Feodor (Tzar Feodor Ionannovich by A. Tolstoy, 1978), Claudio (Hamlet by W. Shakespeare, 1980), Stiliano (My Family by Eduardo de Philippo, 1980), Hetman (The Days of the Turbins by M. Bulgakov, 1983), Yegor Bulychev (Yegor Bulychev and the Others by M. Gorky, 1984), Cavalier di Rippafratta (The Mistress of the Inn by C. Goldoni, 1991), many others. He was honored with the honorary title of Distinguished Artist of Ukraine, and in 1977 he had received the State Award of the USSR for his impersonation of the role of Ryabinin in the performance They Were Actors. In 1981-1985 and 1996 -2000 Yevgeny Kapitonov had been teaching acting technique at the Crimean Theater College at the Academy Theater named after M. Gorky. Yevgeny Kapitonov took part in various literature and theater programs,took part in television performances, worked on the radio.
Yevgeny Kapitonov came to work at the Leningrad Academy Drama Theater named after A. Pushkin in 1999, already a mature master with extensive stage experience. Yevgeny Kapitonov is highly demanded today, in the first place as a comedy, character actor. Many directors cooperating with the Alexandrinsky Theater willingly engage him in their performances. In the six seasons hehadplayed twelve roles among which there were Yermolay (A Pair of Chestnuts by A. Belinsky, 2000), Deacon (The Tale of Tsar Saltan by A. Pushkin, 2000), Don Juan’s Gather (Don Juan by Moliere, 2000), Shchelkanov (Boris Godunov by A. Pushkin, 2000), Rastakovsky (The Inspector General by N. Gogol, 2002), O’Dowd (Vanity Fair by W. Thakeray, 2002), Pastor (Trees Dye Standing by A. Casona, 2003), Kuteikin (Ignoramus by D. Fonvisin, 2003), Official (The Double by F. Dostoyevsky, 2005). Yevgeny Kapitonov works in the cinema and television.
The actor is presently engaged in Valery Fokin’s performances: N. Gogol’s The Inspector General (2002); Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s The Double (2005); and V. Levanov’s Ksenia. The History of Love (2009). He is engaged in the group scenes of W.Shakespeare's Hamlet (Director Valery Fokin, 2010)
In 2007, he took part in the concert performance of M. Lermontov’s Masquerade (music of A.I. Glazunov) directed at the St. Petersburg State Academy Capella (Director I. Selin; Musical Director V. Chernushenko).
