Vladimir Alexeyevich LISETSKY

People`s Artist of Russia

(birth day – 05.03.1945)

Vladimir Lisetsky graduated from the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music, and Cinematography in 1967;  shortly after that he came to work at the A.S. Pushkin Academic Drama Theatre. From the very beginning he has approved himself as a talented actor. His bright theatrical appearance and creative abilities allowed him to play very different characters quite easily.

In the years of his work at the Alexandrinsky Theatre, Vladimir Lisetsky has played about 120 very different roles. Here we can list his secondary roles (at the start of his carrier) and the leads, which he played in the contemporary and classic drama. Acting the parts of the classic repertoire, Vladimir Lisetsky could irreproacheably unite modern interpretation (usual for director’s conception) with his own gentle and cautious approach to the drama material.   Among his roles in classic repertoire there are Dergachev (The Last Victim by A. Ostrovsky, 1971), Khlinov (The Hot Heart by A. Ostrovsky, 1973), Charlie (The Deluge by H. Bereger, 1974), Brigella (The Green Bird by Carlo Gozzi, 1976), Kosyh (Ivanov by A.P. Chekhov, 1978), Monsieur Gondureau (Father Goriot by  Honore de Balzac, 1982), Ivan Ivanovich (The Captain`s Daughter by A.Pushkin, 1984), Montfleury (Cyrano de Bergerac by E. Rostand, 1989), Kuteykin (The Minor by D. Fonvisin, 1990), Gravedigger  (Hamlet by W. Shakespeare, 1992), Turin (The Stupid Lady by Lope de Vega, 1994), Kulygin (The Three Sisters by A.P. Chekhov, 1996), the Button Moulder (Peer Gynt by G. Ibsen, 1997),  Lord Augustus (Lady Windermere"s Fan by Oscar Wilde, 1998), Doolittle (Pygmalion by B. Show, 1998), Balboa (Trees Die Standing by A. Kason,  2001) and other.

Vladimir Lisetsky tends to play roles of sharp character, filling his works with prickly, elaborate and often grotesque details in addition to deep dramatic meaning - if so is required by the dramatic material and director’s design.  His roles in Valery Fokin’s performances (Dobchinsky in The Inspector General by N. Gogol, 2002 and Anton Antonovich Setochkin in The Double after Fyodor Dostoyevsky, 2005) are among the most interesting roles of the recent years.   In 2006, Vladimir Lisetsky was honored with the title of the People’s Artist of Russia (Verdict of the President of the Russian Federation N 310 as of April 3, 2006).  In W. Shakespeare's Hamlet (Director Valery Fokin, 2010) he plays the role of the First Actor, leader oeader of the company of traveling actors performing the scene from The Mousetrap.

In 2010, he was introduced to L.Tolstoy’s “The Living Corps” as Afremov (Director Valery Fokin) and to D. Keyes’s “Flowers for Charlie” as Doctor Strauss (Director I. Sakayev).
