About theatre / Company / EREMIN Oleg

Born in 1979

In 1999-2001, he worked at the Neitralnaya Polosa (Neutral Strip) Riga Theater. In 2006, he graduated from the St. Petersburg State Academy of Theater Arts (V. Filshtinsky’s class). He played roles of Jester (“Romeo and Juliette.  Sketches of Love and Hatred” by W. Shakespeare), NKVD Officer (“Good bye, boys…” after B. Okudzhava), Him (“A Lesson in Jazz Style. A Vessel.  Love.  Dreams” after O. Mukhina’s play “You”) in the school performances.  He directed staging of the “Cutting Iron” performance after O. Mukhina’s play “You;” he also played the role of the Man #1 in it.  After graduation from the Theater Academy, he was admitted in the troupe of the Alexandrinsky Theater.   He participates in performances “Oedipus-Rex” by Sophocles (staged by Theodoros Terzopoulos, 2006), “The Double” by F. Dostoyevsky (director Valery Fokin), “The Ivans” after N. Gogol's writings (Director A. Moguchy, 2007).  He debuted as director with the performance “A Fly” (after Joseph Brodsky and Korney Chukovsky, 2007). He has been filming for many years.

After graduation from the Theater Academy he was admitted to the alternative cast of the Alexandrinsky Theater’s company.  He debuted on the Alexandrinsky Stage in the performance Oedipus Rex by Sophocles (Director Theodoros Terzopoulos, 2006); where, among other actors, he was a Member of the Phoebe Choir, and also played the role of the Herd.  He is engaged in the performance The Double (Director Valery Fokin); he also serves as Assistant Director and actor in the performance The Ivans after N. Gogol’s The Story How Ivan Ivanovich Quarreled with Ivan Nikiforovich and other N. Gogol’s writings (Director Andrey Moguchy, 2007). He is playing the role of Konstantin Treplev in Khrystian Lupa’s performance The Seagull (by A. Chekhov); and he is also engaged in the performance Man Equals Man by Berthold Brecht (Director Yury Butusov, 2008), where he plays the role of Soldier and also is Assistant Director.

In the space of the acoustic tube of the sixth circle, Eremin directed his diploma performance The Fly (2007).  The Director composed two seemingly incompatible compositions: Joseph Brodsky’s poem The Fly and Korney Chukovsky’s Mukha-Tsokotukha (The Clattering Fly) in his original stage composition.  The director managed to extract new senses from the grotesque composition of the philosophic lyrics and a fairy tale known by every child by heart; this allows re-discovering of Brodsky’s poetry and the read-off Chukovsky’s fairy tale.  Of course, here inevitably emerge ironic references to Kafka’s Metamorphosis and Nikolay Oleinikov’s “brave vivisectionists,” as well as Lukian’s satiric anthem Praise on a Fly. Easily mixing various genres, Eremin makes a theater experiment, where pathos and irony replace each other every now and then.  Approaches of street buffoonery easily come along with Guignol elements, while clownery and eccentrics are all of a sudden replaced with monologues of the main character pronounced in the genre of high tragedy.  Public is involved in this strange and sinister masquerade from the very first scenes: in the very beginning of the performance, each one has to walk over the stage podium, where the action will be taking place.  The performance is coming to pass in the space where no spectator has ever been before: in the acoustic tube of the 6th circle, encircling the auditorium and creating the unique acoustics of the Alexandrinsky Theater. Every one, as it is a must at a masquerade, will receive a mask (though not a theater, but medical one) and carnival boot covers - thus turning into a rightful participant of the performance.

Eremin directed his first post-diploma performance Vampilov. Plays (2009) after Alexander Vampilov’s early writings The Unparagoned Nakonechnikov, A House with Windows on the Field. and The Crow’s Grove.
