Laureate of the State Award of Russia
Artistic Director of the International Laboratory of the Theater of Sound Alexander Bakshi is famous for his creations “The Polyphony of the World” (III World Theater Olympiad in Moscow), the violin solo and string orchestra concerto “Orpheus” (Tallinn – Rome, 2002), “Sidur Mysteria” (Honorable Diploma of the IX Festival of the European Theaters in Montmartre). Bakshi has often worked with director Valery Fokin. Their collaborations include “The Sidur Mystery” (1992); “A Hotel Room in the Town of NN” (1994) based on Nikolai Gogol's “Dead Souls;“ Kafka's “The Metamorphosis” (1995), Fedor Dostoyevsky’s “The Karamazovs and the Hell” (1996); Anton Chekhov's “Tatyana Repina” (1998), Gogol's “The Overcoat” (2004) and Fyodor Dostoevsky’s “The Double” (2005). His creative work is connected with the idea of promoting synthesis of acoustic and visual images which he himself calls “the theater of sound.” The composer created a theater genre, alike the opera or ballet, but existing outside a literature narration. The pathos of his pursue is achievement of plasticity and expressiveness of the instrumental and no-text vocal music with the means of the musical stage drama.
The composer’s music is regularly performed at the major concert halls and festivals in America and Europe.
