Video Installation "THE SEAGULL"
Zbigniew Bzymek studied Literature at Bowdoin college in the U.S.A. and film directing at the Polish National Film School in Łódz. he has worked extensively with Krystian Lupa in Europe, creating film, video and animation projections for seven recent Lupa stage productions including “Zaratustra” at the Hellenic Festival, “Solaris” at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, “Die Zauberflöte” at Wiener FestWochen and “Above All the Mountain Tops” in his native Warsaw. He is a member of the New York experimental “The Wooster Group” ensemble, with whom he improvises mixing live video on stage in the new space opera “La Didone” which premiered at KUNSTENFESTIVALDESARTS in Brussels and was recently played at the Rotterdam Opera and gained critical acclaim at the Edinburgh International Festival 2007. In New York, his work was recently featured in the video collage piece Abandon at La Mama, which won an OBIE (Off-Broadway Theater Awards) for the 2006/2007 season. His other New York credits include video projections at the Poetry Project and video installation in Oh What a War at the HERE Art Center. He has also directed seven short films, funded partially with grants from the Polish Institute of Film Arts and a screenwriting award from Nationale Nederlanden. Four of his films have been sold to Kino Polska. Two of his films were recently screened in Warsaw at the SUBWERSJA festival.
