Piotr Skiba

Born in 1954

A actor and theater artist, Skiba graduated from the Higher Theater, Television and Cinematography School in Lodz in 1978. He worked at the Norvid Theater in Jelenja Gorza. It was exactly there that he first met with Kristian Lupa.  After a while, he became the leading actor of the Kristian Lupa author’s theater.  Skiba was not only the principal performer, but also a kind of coryphaeus leading the entire performance in Lupa’s “A Transparent Room” (1979), “Sleep-walkers” by Broch (1998), “Auslöschung” by T. Bernhard (2001), and others.

In 1980-1998, Peter Skiba had worked at the Stary Teatr in Krakow.  He was not only an actor, but also Kristian Lupa’s assistant.    He played in all prominent performances of the producer: Smerdyakov and Devil in “The Brothers Karamazov” by Fedor Dostoyevsky (1990), Malte in the performance after R.-M. Rilke’s novel of the same name (1991), Fro and Professor in “Kalkwerk” by T. Bernhard (1992), Bertrand in the  “Sleep-walkers” by Broch (1995), Ludvig Foss in the “Ritter, Dene, Foss” by T. Bernhard  (1996), Bertrand-Mueller in the second part of the “Sleep-walkers” (1998), Koroviev in the “Master and Margarita” by Bulgakov (2002), and several roles in the “Zaratustra” performance after F. Nietzsche  (2005), etc.

Since 1998, Skiba has worked at the Teatr Dramatichny (Drama Theater) in Warsaw.  Franz Joseph Murau in “Auslöschung” by T. Bernhard (2001) became his major role at that period.

In the several recent years, Peter Skiba has also acted as costume designer.  He created costumes for the following performances: “Presidents’ Wives” by Schwab (1999), “Auslöschung” by T. Bernhard  (2001), “Master and Margarita” (2002), “A Refuge” after M. Gorky’s play “The Lower Depths” (2002), “Zaratustra” (2005), “The Three Sisters” by A. Chekhov (2005), “Silence Reigns the Pinnacles” by T. Bernhard (2006), “The Seagull” by A. Chekhov  (2007).
