The tragic story of Prince Hamlet has a unique capacity to become actual again in various historical periods; it expresses the quintessence of people’s social and deeply personal concepts and feelings. The play, created by W. Shakespeare more than four centuries ago, has acquired numerous interpretations and dramatic adaptations trying to adjust it and put into the context of each particular epoch. Transformations and variability of the text and various interpretational approaches to translations of the original Shakespeare’s text, changes and developments of particular motives of the classic intrigue only emphasize the eternal and universal meaning of this masterpiece.
The new stage version of the story of Hamlet created by Director Valery Fokin uses both poetic and prosaic translations of the famous Shakespeare’s tragedy. Dramatist Vadim Levanov created a special dramatic adaptation revealing accents of the present actualized perception of various collisions of this story. Detection of the acute internal emotions of a person doomed to live in a deceitful and hypocritical atmosphere, where the immoral and ambitious aggressiveness of egoistic interests is hiding itself behind the glossy façade of the life, is in the center of this performance. Hamlet’s tragedy is the tragedy of a person daring to rebel against lies and crimes, but absorbed by banality, soullessness and betrayal.
