26.11.2009 “Andrey Moguchy’s Theater Space” Festival
 

On December 1-10, 2009, a festival called “Andrey Moguchy’s Theater Space” will take place in St. Petersburg.  It will be dedicated to the 20th birthday of the Formal Theater established by Andrey Moguchy.  Performances and festival events will be taking place on the stages of the Alexandrinsky Theater, Baltiisky Dom Festival Theater, Comedienne’s Shelter Theater, and also in the space of the Loft-Project ETAZHI Cultural Center.  The festival program has two parts: “About the Theater” and “Not about the Theater.”   

“About the Theater”

The “About the Theater” part includes demonstration of performances created by Andrey Moguchy in the recent years.  Some of them are already on the St. Petersburg stages; others will be demonstrated only under the festival frames.   The “About the Theater” program will start on December 1 with performance “Izotov” by M. Durnenkov (Alexandrinsky Theater, 7 PM).  The following events will take place under the program frames:  

December 3 and 4: "PRO Turandot" after C. Gozzi (Comedienne’s Shelter Theater, 7 PM), this performance is Laureate of the “Golden Mask” theater award;

December 5 and 6: “A School for Fools” after Sasha Sokolov’s novel (Room 91 of the Baltiisky Dom Festival Theater, 8 PM);

December 7:  “Non-Hamlet” after V. Sorokin’s novel “Dismorphomania” (Comedienne’s Shelter Theater, 7 PM);

December 8: “A Play Which Does Not Exist” (the Baltiisky Dom Festival Theater, 7 PM);  

December 8 and 9: “The Ivans” after N. Gogol’s “Story about How Ivan Ivanovich Quarreled with Ivan Nikiforovich” and other N. Gogol’s writings (Alexandrinsky Theater, 7 PM).  This performance is laureate of the “Golden Mask” National Theater Award.

The Festival will be concluded by the legendary performance of the Formal Theater  after Sasha Sokolov’s novel “Between a Dog and a Wolf;” it will be presented on the stage of the Baltiisky Dom Festival Theater, beginning is at 7 PM.  This performance is laureate of the “Golden Mask” National Theater Award and the Grand Prix Awardee of the Russian Culture Festival in Nice. 

“Not about the Theater”

“Andrey Moguchy’s Theater Space” Festival includes not only performances, but a whole series of events: exhibits, discussions, workshops, flash mops, cartoons and even children’s festivities.  They all are united in the “Not about the Theater” program.  It will engage many participants:  scene designer Alexander Shishkin, the AXE Theater, musician Sergey Shnurov, poet and essayist Lev Rubinshtein, composer Alexander Manotskov, theater critic and program director of the Big Cartoon Festival Dina Goder, critic Konstantin Uchitel,  linguist Natalya Slyusar, director Atilla Vednyansky (Hungary), actor Andres Kozma (Hungary), director Eric Soderblem (Finland), and director Andrey Moguchy

All events of the “Not about the Theater” program will be taking place in the two galleries of the Loft-Project ETAZHI Cultural Center, i.e., on the Globe and Iron Floors.  The full schedule of the “Not about the Theater” program you can find at http://www.formalnyteatr.ru/
