On September 15, 2016, People’s Artist of Russia Galina T. Karelina will celebrate her artistic jubilee.
In more than 60 years of work on the Alexandrinsky Stage, Galina Karelina played more than 60 roles of modern and classic repertoire; her roles were noticeable landmarks of the theatre’s history. Her roles included: Olga (The Years of Travel, A. Arbuzov, 1959), Polixena (Truth is Good, but Happiness Is Better, Ostrovsky, 1959), Donna Anna (The Little Tragedies, A. Pushkin, 1962), Inken Peters (Before the Sunset, H. Hauptmann, 1963), Aunty (An Ordinary Story, I. Goncharov, 1965), Anna (Biderman and Arsonist, M. Frish, 1966), Mrs. N. (Life of Saint Exupery, L. Malyugin, 1966), Olga (The Family Charge by I. Turgenev, 1967), Elizaveta (An Ordinary Story, I. Goncharov, 1967), Zosya (The Rush Hour by Y. Stavinsky, 1970), Yulia Tugina (The Last Victim, A. Ostrovsky, 1971), Irina (Hoarfrost on Haystacks by L. Moiseyev, 1973); Ksenia (From Lopatin’s Notes by K. Simonov, 1975); Yelena Nikolayevna (Children of the Sun by M. More recently, Galina Karelina’s repertoire includes: the role of Mother Klara Olsufievna in The Double after Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s St. Petersburg novel (Director Valery Fokin, 2005); the role of Grandmother in the performance Ksenia. The History of Love by V. Levanov (Director Valery Fokin, 2009); the role of Maria Ivanovna, the Great-Great-Great-Grandmother of Tiltil and Mitil in A. Moguchy and K. Filippov’s performance The Fortune (Director A. Moguchy, 2011); the role of Dame in the performance Masquerade. Remembrance of the Future after M. Yu. Lermontov’s drama Masquerade and 1917 Vs. Meyerhold’s performance (Director Valery Fokin, 2014).
