SPECTACLE
CHEKHOV INTERNATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL
There is plenty of humor and a spark of absurdity in Victoria Thierrée-Chaplin’s world. In her new show Aurélia plays a role of a female kleptomaniac. She opens up a door to her imagination with all the shades of her poetic awkwardness. Plunged into the world of a kleptomaniac, the heroine finds herself possessed by the articles she steals. All these things seem to belong to another sentient world. A clothes hanger starts walking around on the stage. Tables and chairs slip away, and two dancers suddenly appear in the doorway in the wall. Her dress comes to life as well all of a sudden... The strange is combined here with the supernatural; here any visual illusion can make you smile and start daydreaming. There is no place here for logic, sanity or moderation. Aurélia Thierrée and Jamie Martinez take us through imaginary spaces where the humorous surrealism is intertwined with the paranormal.
Premiere: July 12, 2018, Spoleto
