The play directed by Lili Elbakyan is based on the novels of Giovanni Boccaccio's Decameron.
Eight heroines flee the city to escape the plague spreading in Florence. Experiencing the horror of the approaching deadly disease, the girls cannot sleep at night. They tell intriguing stories to distract themselves from the fear that has surrounded them in recent days. But you can escape from the city, but not from your own thoughts. The play presents five stories of love and devotion, jealousy, betrayal and deceit. Love and death are closely intertwined here.
Performed by eight actresses, including the director Lili Elbakyan herself, the heroines of the play instantly transform into the characters of their stories: women, men and children. Deep meanings and precise psychological motifs are revealed in the light and fast-paced play. The genre of the performance - sad comedy - is very precisely defined here.
The premiere took place during the Covid-19 pandemic, drawing a parallel between different historical times, linking the Renaissance with our days.
The play participated in the program of the International Theatre Festival in Sibiu (Romania) and Direction East Festival in Bialystok (Poland).
