Tours are scheduled when no rehearsals and performances are held.

A tour around the interiors of the Alexandrinsky Theatre and the display of the Museum of Russian Drama

The Alexandrinsky theatre, the oldest state theatre of our country once was the main imperial stage of Russia. The magnificent building, erected as per design of the celebrated architect K.I.Rossi, still lets one to feel the atmosphere of the splendid and magnificent imperial theatre.
While being on tour, the guests of the theatre will have an opportunity to walk along the Equipage hall, where wonderful carriages made a stop; to visit Spectators’ and Tsar’s lobby and admire the superb Audience hall. We offer our guests to get into the secret life of the theatre, usually hidden from audience’s eyes. Visitors will be let into the secret of the Tsar’s Box and the Private Box of Nicholas I, they will learn about amazing discoveries, found under the floor of the auditorium during the reconstruction in 2006. They will also visit the acoustic tube and hear numerous legends of the theatre.
Thanks to the stage costumes and items of theatre daily routine presented in the Museum of Russian Drama, great performances of the Alexandrinsky Theatre will come alive in visitors’ imagination: superb Don Juan, brilliant and tragic Masquerade by V.E.Meyerkhold and A.Y.Golovin and many others. During the tour visitors learn about the theatre repertoire in the 19th and 20th centuries, they will see dresses from the private wardrobe of actresses, overcoats of theatre doorkeepers, antique tickets and sketches to famous performances.

The new theatrical and cultural complex “Alexandrinsky” opened in May 2013. It is a unique multifunctional theatrical centre. This event marks a new stage in the history of the oldest national theatre of Russia.
We invite you on the tour, during which the visitors of the theatre will have an opportunity to see around the unusual layout of the building complex from the different points of view; you will learn how a modern building coexists with a building of the 19th and 20th centuries; why does a modern theatre needs its own sound and video recording studio and what an online-theatre and chromakey are. And, most importantly, you will see the stage that gives an opportunity for theatrical experiments and allows you to look into the world of the theatrical future.

‘Theatre Quarter’ is an exclusive, culturally evolving educational walking route, which introduces you to the alive history of Russian arts. Theatre quarter – the city’s district nearby the Alexandrinsky Theatre – naturally preserves remembrance of major historical happenings, of artists and related eminent statespersons that constitute the glorious Russian scenic arts.
our’s landmarks are: the Alexandrinsky Theatre Old Stage building, Saint-Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music , Saint-Petersburg State Theatrical Library, Vaganova [Russian] Ballet Academy. These buildings shape the historic area, formed by Ostrovsky Square, Zodchego Rossi Street, Lomonosov Square and Fontanka River embankment. There, the world-renowned traditions of Russian theatrical arts have been nurtured and cherished since the early XVIII century. The architectural ensemble of the quarter is the recognized urban architecture and planning masterpiece.
The tour introduces sightseers to the most memorable locations, charged with the creative spirit of Saint Petersburg. Participants will see the theatre, both modern and preserving centuries of history, and have a glance at inner world of today’s Old (Historic) and New Stages of the Alexandrinsky Theatre.
THEATRE VOYAGE
Boat tour

The tour introduces guests to the spectacular interiors of the Alexandrinsky Theatre - one of the most beautiful theatre buildings in the world, including the Tsar’s Lobby and the ceremonious Tsar’s Box, as well as the multi-storied Audience hall. Visitors will have an opportunity to unveil the inner, usually discreet, theatre life, to closer learn the artistic achievements of great actors, directors and designers, who forged the repertoire and glory of Russian theatrical arts since the early XVIII century until today.
The tour continues with the river trip. Sightseers will follow the development that Russian theatrical culture underwent and progressed throughout ages, observe the evolution of Russian theatres from court companies to the Directorate of Imperial Theatres, mark theatre-related bygone locations, which, however, left a significant trace in history. We will discuss the impact of the Imperial court and of the Soviet government on theatrical lifetime, recollect the nobility’s fashionable theatrical balls, popular pageantries, theatre’s traditions and customs, talk on what inspires theatrical community in Saint Petersburg today.
The tour gives guests of the theatre the chance to glance at the city’s theatre realm from an unusual perspective. Sightseers approach the living historical reminiscences and see with what an extreme care does Saint Petersburg preserve the memory of world-renowned traditions of Russian theatrical arts.
