“Gogolrevizor” is Gogol constructed and played today by very young people feeling the breath of the time they live in. The stage of action is a corporate club in our city, or in the city of N or any other place. This is a club where everyone knows everyone, they all are insiders: the audience, actors, the staff. This is the place to solve business matters, weave plots, disclose illusions… It is never quiet here; everything is to expose, outward. The Mayor sings karaoke “The Golden Domes” here, fully assured that it “pleases our souls,” and Khlestakov’s stomach performs opera arias because it “Je ne mange pas six jours…”

“Gogolrevizor” is a famous play in the modern rhythms. The actors sing, rap, transfer to each other’s the texts, bring them closer or estrange to the distance they need; they laugh at it and at “themselves,” repeat it for several times… And this all is done to guarantee the essential thing: an honest and candid sounding of “The Inspector General.”
The world is breaking into pieces in accordance with the laws of deconstruction, falling apart into numerous mayors, Khlestakovs, Bobchinsky-Dobchinskys, wives and daughters… The story of replications of images of Russian realities, Russian awkwardness of “such nice people” is so endless, so Gogol-style, and so modern…
