Stage Design: V. Okunev

WITH PARTICIPATION OF THE SOLOISTS OF THE BOLSHOI BALLET (MOSCOW) AND MEMBERS OF ST. PETERSBURG TCHAIKOVSKY BALLET THEATRE COMPANY

This year Alexandrinsky theatre celebrates New Year holidays in a manner of old-time Imperial theatres, homing one the most charming fairy-tales of ballet, the great ‘Sawn Lake’ by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, within its magnificent multi-level historical auditorium. Classical choreography, unique team of dancers from Moscow and St. Petersburg altogether make this ballet a must-see event for both residents and guests of the city. Soloists of The Bolshoi Theatre Ballet Company are to play the main roles. It is worth mentioning that The Bolshoi Theatre was the venue where ‘Sawn Lake’ was staged for the first time and performed by the Imperial Ballet Company in 1877, 140 years ago. However, it was only in 1895 when the ballet was literally reborn in St. Petersburg, after Tchaikovsky’s huge score revisions, choreographed by Marius Petipa.

The universal masterpiece of ballet will be set in Viacheslav Okunev’s awesome scenery, accompanied by a symphony orchestra performing live. At the time of New Year miracles, an unstoppable power of classical art will revive a fairy tale of an enchanted lake, bewitched maiden and a Prince in love, of treacherous Evil’s hexes and triumphant Good on the stage of Alexandrinsky theatre.
