The Jealous Women was the first play written by Goldoni in the Venetian dialect of the Italian language.
The action is taking place in the last days before the carnival, in the environment of shopkeepers and petty bourgeoisies living on the threshold of poverty.
“This is an enclosed world, marked even more seriously by corruption than economic crisis; corruption puts the characters into the whirlpool of pathological gambling passions, a swirl of severe jealousy and jaundice. This is unconventional, dark and quiet Venice. It looks like contemplation of other people’s failures is the only pleasure for the play’s characters. One can feel separation, disorder, and entropy of culture in this play.” Giorgio Sangati
“The performance came out expressive and gloomy to a big extent thanks to the perfect actors’ ensemble and the blue and grey Marco Rossi’s theatrical scenery designed in a lagoon appearance. The charming make-up and the fateful atmosphere of the drama pay tribute to the dark and sinister side of Goldoni’s creative works.” Camilla Talyabue, Il Fatto Quotidiano
