Director, actor and playwright. Graduate of the acting department of the Irkutsk Theater School. Studied directing at the Shchukin Higher Theater School in Moscow. In 1995-1996 was an actor at the Magadan Theater, and in 1996-1998 - at the Drama and Comedy Theater in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. In 1998 he founded the Studio Theater "Space of Play" in Irkutsk. After the controversial premiere of "Dreams" the authorities deprived Vyrypayev's theater of the stage, accusing the director of immorality and destructive influence on young people. Then Vyrypayev accepted the invitation of the "Theater.doc" being created at that time in Moscow, where he works to this day. In 1999-2001 he taught at the Irkutsk Theater School. He is one of the founders of the theater "Praktika".
In Poland he staged his play July at the Theater on Wola in Warsaw (2009).
Author of the plays "Dreams" (1999), "The City Where I Am" (2000), "Valentine's Day" (2001), "Oxygen" (2002), "Genesis 2" (2004), "July" (2006), "Deli Dance" (2009).
Ivan Vyrypayev's plays are performed in theaters in more than twenty countries. In Poland his plays have been staged by such directors as Agnieszka Olsten ("Oxygen", 2003), Małgorzata Bogajewska ("Oxygen", 2003), Aleksandra Konieczna ("Oxygen", 2004), Lukasz Kos ("Dreams", 2004), Iwona Kempa ("Valentine's Day", 2005), Anna Seniuk ("Valentine's Day", 2007).
Ivan Vyrypayev is the director of two feature films: "Euphoria" (2006, Grand Prix 22nd Warsaw International Film Festival) and "Oxygen" (2009). He is also the author of screenplays ("Another Neighborhood", "Bunker", "Bucharest 68", "Boomer 2", "Antonina Looked Back", "Valentine's Day").
Winner of many prizes, including the Alexander Volodin Award "Nadezhda Rusda". Alexander Volodin "Hope of Russian Dramaturgy", the Russian National Theater Award and the festival "Golden Mask".
Within the framework of the Seventh International Theatre Festival "Alexandrinsky" on the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre on May 24, 2013 was presented Ivan Vyrypayev's play "The Deli Dance", staged by him at the Narodowy Theatre (Poland).
