A graduate of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater (Ionas Vaitkus’s director master shop), Korshunovas is one of the most known directors in Lithuania. He spearheads the Vilnius City Theater, a regular participant of the Avignon Theater Festival. Oskaras Korshunovas’ performances have been time after time presented at the Baltitsky Dom International Theater Festival (“There Be Here” by D. Kharms, 2001; “Romeo and Juliette” by W. Shakespeare, 2004; “Hamlet” by W. Shakespeare, 2009); NET Festival and other prestigious theater forums. Korshunovas began his first director’s experiences with production of sharp modern social European drama: “Roberto Zucco” by Bernar-Maria Koltes (1998), “Fireface” and “A Cold Child” by Marius von Meyenburg (2004), “Shopping and Fucking” by Mark Ravenhill (1999), Sarah Kein. Along with the new upstart drama Oskaras Korshunovas addressed to the world classics: from Sophocles to Shakespeare, from A.V. Sukhovo-Kobylin to Kharms and Mikhail Bulgakov. He directed more than 40 performances in Lithuania and other countries including Norway, Italy, France, and Russia. The list of his most meaningful jobs include: “PS Matter OK” by Sigitas Parulskis, “The Old Woman” by Daniil Kharms (1997), “Oedipus Rex” by Sophocles (2002), Romeo and Juliette” by Williams Shakespeare (2003), “Embodying a Victim” by the Presnyakov Brothers, “Master and Margarita” by Mikhail Bulgakov (2000), “Encounter” by Paul Barts (with Donatas Banionis and Regimantas Adomaitis in the major roles); “The City” by Yevgeny Grishkovets and “Hamlet” by Williams Shakespeare (2009), etc. His foreign directions include: “The Death of Tarelkin” by A.V. Sukhovo-Kobylin (Moscow Theater “Et Cetera” with Alexander Kalyagin in the major role, 2005), “The Way to Damask” by August Strindberg at the Oslo National Theater (2006), “The Magic Flute” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the Regio Theater (Turin, Italy, 2006) and “Taming of the Shrew” by W. Shakespeare at the Comedie Francais in France (2007), "The Lower Depths" by M. Gorky (the National Drama Theater, Oslo, Norway, 2009).
In 2001, he was honored with one of the most prestigious European theater awards: “The New Reality.”
In 2009, Oskaras Korshunovas was given the honorable title of the Chevalier of the French order of Literature and Arts.
