Oxygen Theatre Company, an experimental theatre group based in Trissur, in the Indian state of Kerala, explores the possibilities of a contemporary visual language in Indian theatre, "that can perhaps transcend multilingual barriers through the collaboration of artists from different disciplines such as theatre and visual arts."
The core of Oxygen Theatre Company consists of a group of theatre artists who have been active in Kerala's contemporary theatre scene since the 1980s, collaborating with many of Trissur's experimental theatre groups such as Root, Theatre Eye, Abhinaya Theatre Research Centre, Thiruvananthapuram and Rangachethana.
Oxygen Theatre Company's first production, Spinal Cord, based on Gabriel Garcia Marquez's short story, Chronicle of a Predicted Death, directed by Deepan Sivaraman, won 7 out of 13 prestigious Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) national category in 2010. Including Deepan Sivaraman was awarded for Best Production, Best Director, Best Stage Design and Best Choreography.
