Peter Naumovich Fomenko was born on July 13, 1932 in Moscow. In 1955 he graduated from the philological faculty of the Moscow Lenin Pedagogical Institute, and in 1961 - from the directing faculty of GITIS (the course was recruited by N. M. Gorchakov, course masters - N. P. Okhlopkov and A. A. Goncharov).
In the 60's Fomenko staged performances in various Moscow theaters: in the Central Children's Theater, in the theater on Malaya Bronnaya, the theater studio of Moscow State University "Leninskie Gory", the Moscow Mayakovsky Drama Theater, the Theater of Drama and Comedy on Taganka.
In the 70s, Fomenko exists between the two capitals. Since 1972 he is a director, and from 1977 to 1981 - chief director of the Leningrad Comedy Theater. Here he produced performances: "This dear old house" by A. Arbuzov (1972), "Trojan War will not be" J. Giraudoux (1973), "Old New Year" M. Roshchin (1974), "The Misanthrope" by Moliere and "The Muse" by G. Nikitin (both 1975), "The Forest" by A. Ostrovsky and "Wedding. Jubilee" by A. Chekhov (both - 1979), "Terkin-Terkin" by A. Tvardovsky (1980), "The Tale of the Arden Forest" by W. Shakespeare (1981) and others. In the same years he staged performances in Moscow theaters: "Examinations never end" by E. de Filippo (1976) in the Soviet Army Theater and "Lubov Yarovaya" K. Trenyev (1977) in the Maly Theater.
Leaving the Leningrad Comedy Theater in 1981, Fomenko returned to Moscow. From the system of repertory theater, the director goes into pedagogy. In study auditoriums saw the light of such performances, created by Fomenko with his students, as: "Boris Godunov" (1984) and "Queen of Spades" (1988) by Alexander Pushkin, "Players" by Nikolai Gogol (together with R. Sirota - 1986), "Wolves and Sheep" by Alexander Ostrovsky (1992), "Wedding" by Anton Chekhov (1996).
Over the years, four graduates of Fomenko's students have stepped into professional theater life, including directors Sergei Zhenovach, Ivan Popovski, Oleg Rybkin, Elena Nevezhina, Vladimir Epifantsev, Vasily Senin, Mindaugas Karbauskis, Sergei Puskepalis, Nikolai Druchek and others.
In 1992, Fomenko received the title of professor at the Russian Academy of Theatrical Art (RATA).
In parallel with his pedagogical work, Fomenko continues to stage plays in Moscow theaters. Among the directorial works of Fomenko, created in the 80-90-ies on the stages of various theaters such performances as: "The fruits of enlightenment" by Leo Tolstoy in the theater. В. V. Mayakovsky (1985); "Guiltless Guilty" by Alexander Ostrovsky (1993) and "Queen of Spades" by Alexander Pushkin (1996) at the Vakhtangov Theater. Eugene Vakhtangov; "Caligula" by A. Camus at the Mossovet Theater (1990), "The Queen of Spades" at the Vakhtangov Theater. Mossovet (1990), "The Magnificent Cuckold" by F. Krommelinka at the theater "Satirikon" (1994) and others.
In 1993, Fomenko's acting and directing course (enrollment 1988) received the status of a theater with Pyotr Naumovich Fomenko as its artistic director. On the playbill of the theater are the following productions staged by the director: "Wolves and Sheep" by A. N. Ostrovsky (1992), "One Absolutely Happy Village" by B. B. Vakhtin (2000), dramatizations of Leo Tolstoy's prose "Family Happiness" (2000) and "War and Peace. The Beginning of the Novel. Scenes" (2001), "Mad of Chaillot" by J. Giraudoux (2001), "He was a titular counselor" based on "Notes of a Madman" by Nikolai Gogol (2004), "Three Sisters" by Anton Chekhov (2004), "Forgive us, Jean-Baptiste" based on "A Bachelor in the Nobility" by J.-B. Molière (2006), "Forgive us, Jean-Baptiste" by Jean-Baptiste Molière (2006). B. Moliere (2006), "What a Pity" based on the play by G. Marquez "Love Reply to the man sitting in the chair" (2006), "Without a dowry" by A. N. Ostrovsky (2007), musical by Y. Kim "Tales of the Arden Forest" by W. Shakespeare with the intern group of our theater (2008) and "Triptych" based on the works of Alexander Pushkin (2009). He took part in the production of the plays "Theater Romance" and "Come in, come in". In the last years of his life he rehearsed Pushkin's Boris Godunov.
Over the years, Peter Fomenko's productions have been seen by audiences in Poland, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Japan, Colombia, China and Greece.
The productions created by Fomenko have repeatedly won various theater awards. Pyotr Naumovich himself was awarded the title of People's Artist of Russia in 1993, in 2005 - Commander of the Order of Arts of France, in 2004 he was awarded the Prize of the President of the Russian Federation, is a laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation (1995, 1998, 2002), the Triumph Prize (2001) and the G. Tovstonogov Prize. G. Tovstonogov Award (2001). He was awarded the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" IV, III and II degrees (1996, 2003, 2007).
In total, Peter Naumovich Fomenko created more than sixty performances in theaters in Moscow, Leningrad, Tbilisi, Wroclaw (Poland), Salzburg (Austria) and Paris (France).
