The Pushkin Pskov Academic Drama Theater - a branch of the National Drama Theater of Russia (Alexandrinsky Theater) - is one of the leading theaters in the regions, in demand not only by Pskovites and guests of the city, but also by the best theater festivals.
The artistic director of the theater - Dmitry Meskhiev, Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation - speaks about the theater's development strategy: "Different directions and genres should be present in the theater - from classical to avant-garde. In the city of Pskov there is only one drama theater, and we must take into account different preferences and tastes of people. Someone is interested in light genre, someone likes experimental theater. Without false modesty I will say: if our theater has broken out of the narrow framework of provincial scaffolding, we must take into account the trends of the modern theater world and do not lower our bar".
In 2021 the Pskov Drama Theater became a structural subdivision of the National Drama Theater of Russia (Alexandrinsky Theater).
As of 2022, the theater has five performance venues: large and small stages, "Little Theatre" (a specialized baby stage), a new hall (a platform for chamber performances) and a cafeteria where musical performances take place.
The activity of the Pskov Drama Theatre goes beyond the boundaries of the stage space: it is not only a theater, it is a cultural center that attracts people who are active, curious and interested. The theater has a lecture hall "Vetka", a travel club named after Gleb Travin "Pathways", the film club "Milk and Hay", the gallery "Workshop" and the children's theater workshop "Nails".
Two performances of the Pskov Drama Theater were awarded the National Theater Award "Golden Mask": "The River Potudan" by Sergei Chekhov - a six-time nominee of the National Theater Award "Golden Mask", "The Inspector" by Peter Shereshevsky - a five-time nominee and winner of the National Theater Award "Golden Mask" for Best Supporting Actor. An extensive touring map has performances: "Kashtanka" by Yulia Peresild ("Chereshnevy les", "Rainbow", "Dates on Teatralnaya", "М.@rt.контакт"), "The Tomb of Little Tutankhamun" by Elizaveta Bondar ("Artmigration", "Breakthrough", Youth Theater Forum of the Commonwealth, Baltic States, Georgia).
The theater is a participant of the festivals "Artmigration", "Territory" "Alexandrinsky", "Baltic House", "Rainbow", "Breakthrough", "Chereshnevy les" and others.
