German director. Born in Karlsburg. Studied architecture and scenography at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture in Paris. Fellow of the Academy of Arts in Paris.
Trained in the international program for young artists at The Watermill center of Robert Wilson (USA). Worked as an assistant director and then as a co-director for opera productions of the famous Achim Freyer. Since 2008 he has been assistant director and co-director of Robert Wilson's projects: Faust at the National Opera in Warsaw, The Free Shooter at the Festspielhaus (Baden-Baden), The Odyssey at the National Theater of Greece (Athens), Pushkin's Tales (Theater of Nations, Moscow). He was a literary consultant for Wilson's play "The Old Woman" based on the works of Kharms.
Hecker's directorial debut was Mozart's Mandina amabile in 2009, created on the stage of the creative art space Radialsystem V in Berlin. His other musical projects include Jay Schwarz's chamber opus Narcissus and Echo for the Salzburg Theater and the Music Festival in Madrid, Mozart's The Imaginary Gardener for the Wuppertal Opera, Thomas Arne's Alfred for the Pocket Opera Company in Nuremberg, John Cage's Song Books for the Berlin State Opera Workshop, and Dominico Cimarosa's The Secret Marriage for the Nordhausen Opera.
Tilman Hecker and Linsey Paysinger's Midnight (September 22, 23, 24, 2017. New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre) was presented at the XI International Alexandrinsky Festival.
