264th SEASON CLOSURE
On June 1, 2020, the Alexandrinsky Theatre wraps up the 264th season, which will for sure remain one of the most memorable season’s in the history of Russia’s oldest and leading theatre company.
From the day of its foundation on the 30th of August, 1756, by an order of the Russian Senate, eventually signed by Empress Elizabeth, the prime state-owned professional drama chapel of Russia has served as the ultimate cultural frontier of the Russian national stage. In 2020 the predestined and current role of the Alexandrinsky Theatre was stately confirmed by assigning the new title: National Drama Theatre of Russia (Alexandrinsky Theatre).
Finishing the 2019/2020 season in the course of the COVID-19 epidemic, the theatre closes its doors one month prior the settled dates. Eventually, the Theatre season’s closing events were re-arranged all over as well significantly.
The Alexandrinsky Theatre’s 265th season will officially open on August 30, 2020.
