‘POWER TO THE CHILDREN’ PREMIERE
On September 3 and 4, 2019, the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre hoists premiere of ‘Power to the Children’, directed by Nikolai Roshchin and Andrei Kalinin. The play (originally: ‘Victor, or Power to the Children’) by Roger Vitrac, French poet and playwright, is regarded as the most staged surrealistic French play.
The cast features Ilya Del, Stepan Balakshin, Elena Zimina, Anna Seledets, Elena Nemzer, Andrei Matyukov, Olesya Sokolova, Sergei Mardar, Elena Vozhakina, Andrei Kalinin, Aleksei Demidchik.
Two lectures accompany the premiere of ‘Power to the Children’: ‘Delusion as the major drama tool (Roger Vitrac and the surrealism)’ by Vadim Maksimov, theatre historian with an emphasis on French theatre (September 2); ‘Surrealism in the cinematography’ by Mikhail Trofimenkov, film critic and film historian (September 3).
