VALERY FOKIN AWARDED XVII EUROPE THEATRE PRIZE
On November 17, 6:00 p.m., the XVII Edition of Europe Theatre Prize and XV Edition of Europe Prize New Theatrical Realities award ceremony were held at the Main Stage of the Alexandrinsky theatre. This year’s winner of one of Europe’s most prestigious awards in arts, Europe Theatre Prize, is Valery Fokin, Alexandrinsky Theatre Artistic Director. The prize is given in acknowledgment of Fokin’s 'artistic diversity, absolute sacrifice to theatre art and longstanding theatre work'.
XV Edition of Europe Prize New Theatrical Realities prize were also awarded on that evening. The winners are: Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (Belgium-Morocco); Swedish circus company Circus Cirkor; directors Julien Gosselin (France), Jan Klata (Poland), Tiago Rodrigues (Portugal); director, journalist and essayist Milo Rau (Switzeland). Special prize was given to actress Nuria Espert (Spain).
The ceremony was followed by Valery Fokin,'s 'Masquerade. Remembrance of the Future' demonstration.
This year’s Europe Theatre Prize events are the part of St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum programme, Baltic House Theatre-Festival is Europe Theatre Prize events organizer.
