Born 1936 in Kutaisi, Georgia. Painter, theatre and film director, writer and sculptor.
Author of over thirty-five screenplays, including ‘Mimino’, ‘Don’t Get Sad’, ‘Kin-Dza-Dza!’, ‘The Eccentrics’, ‘An Extraordinary Exhibition’, ‘Three Men on the Road’ and other.
In 1981 Rezo Gabriadze founded Marionette Theatre in Tbilisi, Georgia. From the very first performance the audience gave its heart to the theatre. The company has been touring all over the globe since then.
Rezo Gabriadze is an awardee of numerous local and international awards, including Order of Arts and Letters of France, USSR State Prize, ‘Nika’ Award, ‘Triumph’ Award, ‘Golden Mask’ Award, ‘Golden Soffit’ Award, ‘Tsarskoe Selo’ Prize, Shota Rustaveli State Prize of Georgia.
In December 2018 the performance ‘How Blue It Is, The End of Alley…’, based on the play by Rezo Gabriadze, premiered at the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre. Rezo Gabriadze was also the Art Director of the performance.
