
Theatre Director
Born in 1962 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Ukrainian theatre director, Honorary arts worker of Ukraine, awardee of Ukrainian Order of Merit (Third Grade), winner of ‘The Golden Mask’ Russian National Theatre Award. Studied at Taras Shevchenko State Art School (Kyiv, Ukraine), graduated Russian Institute of Theatre Arts in 1989 (class of A. Vasiliev).
2002-2005: Artistic Director at the Taras Shevchenko Kharkiv Academic Ukrainian Drama Theatre.
1995 to date: President of the international fund ‘Ukraine-Culture-Europe.
2004: awarded the UNESCO Award in Performing Arts.
2016 - ‘On the Other Side of the Curtain’, directed by Andriy Zholdak, premieres at the Main Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre.
Director of productions in Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater (Kyiv, Ukraine), Taras Shevchenko Kharkiv Academic Ukrainian Drama Theatre, Radu Stanca National Theatre (Sibiu, Romania), ‘Volksbühne’ theater (Berlin, Germany), Lucerne Theatre (Lucerne, Switzerland), Turku City Theatre (Turku, Finland), Theater Oberhausen (Oberhausen, Germany), State Theatre of Nations (Moscow, Russia), as well as in theaters of St. Petersburg, Russia: The Baltic House Festival Theatre, The Mikhailovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre, Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater.
Andriy Zholdak’s productions were honoured at numerous international theatre festivals: BITEF (Belgrade, Serbia), Kontakt Festival (Poland), Sibiu Festival (Romania), Noorderzon Festival (The Netherlands), ‘Мистецьке березілля’ (Kyiv, Ukraine), Golden Lion Theatre Festival (Lviv, Ukraine).
