"Uncle Vanya" based on the play by A.P. Chekhov is a collabration performance by two national theatres of the Russian Federation: the Gafuri Bashkir Academic Drama Theatre and the Mari National Drama Theatre named after M. Gafuri. M. Gafuri Bashkir Academic Drama Theatre and M. Shketan Mari National Drama Theatre. It was created with the support of the Association of National Theatres of Russia.

The play explores the "paradox of human existence", when heroes, absorbed in everyday concerns, miss important turning points of destiny. "Uncle Vanya" in this reading remains true to the traditions of psychological theatre, but sounds unexpectedly modern, inviting the audience to reflect on time, lost chances and eternal questions of human existence.

Chekhov shows how a man, finding himself at the breaking point in life, suddenly looks back and realises that his most ardent wish is to wake up one morning and start anew. But is it possible? Or does time irrevocably pass away, leaving us in the captivity of unfulfilled hopes?

Premiere date: 13 March 2025
