
The Bashkir State Academic Drama Theatre named after Majit Gafuri is a drama theatre in the city of Ufa, named after the national poet of Bashkortostan, Majit Gafuri. The theatre regularly tours not only in Bashkortostan and Tatarstan, but also throughout the country, and has performed in Syria, Turkey, China, Kazakhstan, Kabardino-Balkaria and Hungary. The repertoire of the theatre in all the years of its existence was formed in four cardinal directions: mastering the national classics, foreign, Russian and modern domestic plays.
The theatre actively seeks and applies new creative forms, boldly experiments, and successfully performs at festivals. In 2019, Ayrat Abushakhmanov's play Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes was nominated for the Golden Mask Award in six nominations and won in the category "For the stage reading of Guzelie Yakhina's novel Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes". The play successfully toured all over Russia and participated in many international theatre festivals in Moscow, Grozny, Irkutsk, Kazan, Izhevsk, Ulyanovsk and other cities.
During its existence, the theatre has become a real folk treasury, which preserves language, culture, traditions; and which, uniting the people, preserves and develops the national spirit. The theatre lives a rich and full life, constantly forming new acting forces and a distinctive, inherent repertoire, which is represented by a diverse palette of genres and creative heritage of both national, Russian and foreign authors.
During one theatrical season five or six premiere performances are produced, the theatre annually organises tours, attends professional forums and festivals.
